Movable bridges have been Jon Ellis’ passion and trade for the last 16-years. Jon has served as an authorized bridge tender on 11 bridges, a bridge tender supervisor, district manager, and operations manager for ISS Facility Services: the third largest public company in the world.
As operations manager, Jon has had direct oversight of more than 50 movable bridge structures of all types, from New Jersey to Florida, from South Carolina to Louisiana. In South Florida he formed and managed a movable bridge maintenance division for ISS specializing in providing bridge tending, preventative maintenance, and emergency services for 20 difficult D4 rehabilitation projects.
Jon has managed, inspected, trained, and certified more than 360 bridge operators across numerous projects with combined contract values exceeding 70 million dollars. He has conducted over 125 DOT bridge tender safety training classes, drafted 28 bridge specific instruction manuals, authored district specific bridge tender safety training manuals, and he is currently working on a comprehensive bridge tenders safety training resource manual to be utilized by operators in any state on any type of movable bridge. Jon also holds an OSHA 30 General Industry Certification, as well as an OSHA 36 'Train-the-Trainer' Occupational Health & Safety Certification.
Thanks to the fine operators following their procedures and principles outlined in Jon’s classes and manuals, after the millions of safe openings provided across more than a decade, as a result of bridge operations, not a single person was harmed… and that is no accident!
